Response to Richard Diebenkorn's "Ocean Park #79"

ocean park deconstructed
strong structural lines
straining to restrain messy color fields
meticulously laid out
trying desperately to cover up
past intentions

Response to my own work, "trinity trails_0001"

a hazy memory
of a forgotten time
when i was still a child
but almost an adult
as a teenager
growing up
in a household divded,
i sought solice
in the solitude
of the night
a hidden
sancutary
where i could
lose myself

Response to Rene Magritte's "The Treachery of Images"

Simple and innocuous:
This is not a pipe.
Realistic but not real:
This is not a pipe.
Oil on canvas:
This is not a pipe.

And what of other art:
This is not a pipe.
Serrano’s Piss Christ:
This is not a pipe.
Mapplethorpe’s The Perfect Moment:
This is not a pipe.

The treachery of images:
This is not a pipe.
Is that they are merely images:
This is not a pipe.
Constructed by an artist:
This is not a pipe.

Response to Ed Ruscha's "Standard Stations"

there is power in repetition
always the same
always different
mass produced culture
mass produced art
there is power in repetition

Response to Mona Hatoum's "+ and -"

i am a cold, stainless steel machine
i build you up
and tear you down
in
one
smooth
unflenching
motion
creator and destroyer
steadily keeping pace
i am never rushed
emotionless

Response to Mark Ryden's "58 The Apology"

i’m sorry for the pain i’ve caused
i’m sorry for breaking our unspoken laws
of mutual respect and admiration
but i couldn’t contain my need for exploration.

the more i took, the more i needed
and the less i listened as you pleaded
but through hindsight i see my error
and hope you will not retaliate with terror.

i can correct the mistakes i’ve made
and my debt to you will be repaid.

Response to Andrew Wyeth's "Christina's World"

Though your muted colors may provoke others to recoil
and search for other,
more vibrant scenes,
I find my reflection in your palette
and am drawn to it.
Though your stark isolation may leave others feeling empty,
and removed,
I find solace in it
and seek to dwell in your presence.
And by dwelling there, I will find  myself in you.
Mysterious and alone
yearning for something unseen
and though the path to get there is long and solitary
my heart is filled with determination.
What I seek may not seem appealing to all
but it is everything to me.
